COMMENCEMENT OF THE AUTOMATION/E-PROCESSING OF THE DEFERMENT AND RESUMPTION OF STUDY IN LAGOS STATE UNIVERSITY

The Vice-Chancellor has approved that the automation/e-processing of the deferment/resumption of studies application and approval processes shall commence effective from 18th August 2025. The approval is a follow-up action aimed at eradicating the bottlenecks surrounding the deferment/resumption of study processes. This is expected to address the issues of delay in the deferment of study processes.

The automation/e-processing of deferment and resumption of study will, in addition to the digitisation drive of the Vice-Chancellor, help to avert the earlier identified obstacles in the manual processing, which include, but are not limited to, the following:

a) Usage of incorrect matriculation numbers against students’ names.
b) Deferment of a whole session while the student’s actual intended request is for a semester, or vice versa.
c) Incorrect capturing of biodata on the request letter.
d) Delay in the forwarding of Senate decision extracts to stakeholders.
e) Delay/non-receipt of the Senate decision extracts by the target audience and stakeholders.
f) Delay in the processing of requests prior to COPDD and Senate consideration, as the case may be.
g) Sometimes, lack of feedback to the students, etc.
h) Delay in receiving advisories on cases requiring medical personnel input, amongst others.

The usage of the application is expected to make life easier for officials in the workflow.

The new application has been structured such that, upon approval by Senate, Deans of Faculties can initiate the implementation of the deferred semester/session, and the same will reflect on the students’ profiles immediately.
