The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released the 2025 WASSCE results, revealing a major drop in performance. Out of the 1,969,313 candidates who sat for the exam, only 754,545—representing 38.32%—obtained credits and above in at least five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics.
A total of 1,973,365 students from 23,554 recognized secondary schools across Nigeria registered for the exam, with 1,969,313 actually taking part. The examination also extended to Nigerian-curriculum schools in Benin Republic, Côte d’Ivoire, and Equatorial Guinea.
During a press briefing on Monday, WAEC’s Head of National Office, Dr. Amos Dangut, disclosed that results of 192,089 candidates (9.75%) have been withheld due to reported cases of exam malpractice.

Female Candidates: 407,353 (53.99%).
Also, when compared to 2024, where 72.12% of candidates obtained five credits including English and Mathematics, this year’s 38.32% reflects a 33.8% drop in success rate, indicating a major decline in the overall performance.
