FUTMINNA WELCOMES NUC ACCREDITATION TEAM FOR INFORMATION SCIENCE, MEDIA STUDIES

The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Minna (FUTMINNA), Prof Faruk Adamu Kuta, on Monday, 27th October 2025, received a delegation from the National Universities Commission (NUC) on an accreditation visit to the Department of Information Science and Media Studies (ISMS), School of Information and Communication Technology (SICT). The meeting took place at the Academic Publishing Centre, Main Campus.

Leading the team, Professor Orebiyi Anthony Olajide explained that the NUC delegation was mandated to assess the University’s preparedness to commence a degree programme in Information Science and Media Studies. He commended the calibre of staff in the department, noting that FUT, Minna has made remarkable efforts in establishing the programme. Prof Orebiyi requested the institution’s cooperation throughout the accreditation process and encouraged an exchange of ideas aimed at strengthening the quality of education, ensuring FUT, Minna students remain competitive globally.

In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Kuta, emphasised the importance of peer review in university development, stating that such visits help institutions identify areas of strength and improvement. He expressed appreciation to the NUC for organizing the accreditation exercise, noting that it enables universities to align with global academic standards. Prof Kuta assured the team of the department’s full readiness and pledged the unwavering support of all staff involved.

Other members of the accreditation team included Professor Asor Kenneth Tsebee and Mr. Muhammed Danrangi, who represented the NUC. The event was also attended by the Dean and Heads of Departments from the School of Information and Communication Technology, FUT, Minna.
