IBB University Lapai Warns Against Hostel Racketeering, Orders Investigation
The Management of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University (IBBUL), Lapai, has raised alarm over the activities of individuals and groups allegedly involved in illegal hostel accommodation racketeering within the institution.
In a press statement issued by the University, the Management expressed dismay at reports that some unscrupulous persons have been exploiting unsuspecting students particularly freshers by fraudulently securing hostel spaces and reselling them at exorbitant rates, especially at the beginning of academic sessions.
According to the statement, the practice has persisted over time and poses a serious threat to the welfare and safety of students, as well as the integrity of the University’s accommodation process.
To address the situation, the University Management has directed the Student Affairs Division to commence a thorough investigation aimed at identifying and apprehending all those involved in the illicit activity.
The Management warned that anyone found culpable whether seller or buyer will face strict disciplinary measures, stressing that no individual will be shielded from sanctions.
The University urged students to remain vigilant, avoid engaging in illegal accommodation transactions, and cooperate with relevant authorities as efforts are intensified to sanitize the hostel allocation system.
