The Senate of Bayero University, Kano (BUK) convened its 433rd meeting on March 4, 2026, and resolved to expel 171 students found guilty of falsifying their admission entry qualifications.
The decision was based on the findings of the Senate Committee on Entry Qualification Irregularities, which was tasked with examining discrepancies in the admission credentials of enrolled students.
All 171 students were determined to have submitted fraudulent qualifications at the point of admission, a serious breach of Section 20.7, Category A (vii) of the University's General Examinations and Academic Regulations (GEAR), which mandates expulsion for such offences.
Separately, the Senate sanctioned the expulsion of Yusuf Muhammad Sani (ENG/18/CIV/00065), a Civil Engineering student, after he was found to have physically assaulted examination invigilators during an ongoing examination, thereby disrupting its orderly conduct. His actions were equally deemed a violation of the same provision under GEAR.
In reaffirming its zero-tolerance stance on misconduct, the University emphasized that academic integrity and discipline remain non-negotiable, and that any infringement of its regulations will continue to attract firm and appropriate consequences in line with established institutional rules.
