The Vice-Chancellor of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai, Professor Mohammed Hadi Sulaiman, has directed the resumption of academic activities on Monday, October 5, 2026, following the suspension of the five-week industrial action embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), IBBUL Chapter.
Professor Sulaiman expressed appreciation to the Visitor and Executive Governor of Niger State, Farmer Governor Umar Mohammed Bago, for approving the demands presented by ASUU, which paved the way for the suspension of the strike.
He also commended all stakeholders who contributed to the mediation and resolution of the dispute between the university chapter of ASUU and the Niger State Government.
The Vice-Chancellor, who described the development as a welcome outcome, called on members of the university community to give thanks to Allah for the resolution of the dispute.
“Alhamdulillah, we have come to the closure of the trade dispute between us, the IBBUL Chapter and the Niger State Government. Whenever something good like this happens, it calls for showing gratitude and appreciation to Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala,”he said
Professor Sulaiman further disclosed that the University Management would review the academic calendar for the 2025/2026 academic session in line with the period lost to the industrial action.
He said the revised academic calendar has been approved and would be made available to students and other members of the University community.
He urged students to return to campus immediately and resume lectures, stressing that they have only a few weeks to prepare for the second-semester examinations.
Professor Sulaiman assured the students that Management would make necessary adjustments to the academic calendar to ensure the remaining academic activities are properly coordinated.
The Vice-Chancellor also appreciated parents and guardians for their understanding and continued support as the University works towards completing the 2025/2026 academic session.
He urged staff and students to remain committed to the revised schedule and cooperate with the University Management to ensure a smooth and successful completion of the academic session.
